A company new to Quebec needed TRSB’s translation expertise and logistical support to get its operations up and running on a very tight turnaround.
About the client
The client, a wealth management firm, offers investors the truly objective advice of independent advisors coupled with the financial stability of a Schedule 1 bank.
Background/challenge
The client contacted us in 2021 on the strength of our reputation for financial translation. It was setting up shop in Quebec and had a whole series of documents to translate—contracts, HR documentation, management profiles, a website, press releases, and more. Although the company had employees in Quebec, it couldn’t sell its funds until the investment documents were available in French. It needed TRSB’s help.
Time was of the essence, but there could be no stinting on quality—many of the texts were investment documents with legal and regulatory considerations. It was important to make sure there was a proper quality control process in place.
Outcome
We sat down with the client and went over all the materials. Which documents required special subject-matter expertise? Which ones raised reputational or legal issues? What were the requirements under Quebec’s language legislation?
Based on the answers, we drew up a tightly synchronized translation plan, with all documents categorized by risk level and priority. We also finalized working arrangements with the client’s in-house translator and newly hired translation coordinator. It was important to have a final validation step.
Our initial work was done in Microsoft Word, but as the project moved forward we began to receive InDesign files. The client was happy to know we worked with virtually all file formats and that all translations were returned in their final layout.
The TRSB client portal proved to be a real boon. It allowed the client to keep easy track of every job and facilitated coordination with the lead project manager.
The client is now fully operational in Quebec and still entrusts with TRSB with its translation work.
